Job Description

IT Engineer

Location:

St Helens

Employment Type:

Permanent

At Safer Sphere, we're moving into our next chapter, and IT is a big part of that. We're building a dedicated internal function to replace outsourced support, and we're looking for a reliable, hands-on IT Engineer to help us get there.

This is a great opportunity to help shape how IT works across the business. You'll be joining at an exciting time, helping us set new standards and build scalable, secure systems that support a growing national consultancy.

The Role

As IT Engineer, you'll play a key role in the day-to-day delivery of internal IT services. From troubleshooting and device management to supporting wider systems and infrastructure, you'll be the go-to person for technical support and service delivery, working alongside our IT Lead to get things running smoothly and securely.

You'll be comfortable juggling requests from across the business, solving problems quickly and keeping things documented and compliant. This isn't just support, it's about building solid systems that help people do their best work.

Key Responsibilities

Provide first and second-line technical support across multiple offices and remote environments Set up and manage user accounts, devices, and access rights through our onboarding/offboarding process Support and maintain Microsoft 365 services (Exchange, Teams, SharePoint, Azure AD) Administer endpoints using InTune and related tools, ensuring compliance with internal policies Maintain IT documentation, asset registers, and internal knowledge base Monitor system health, backups, antivirus, patching, and report/escalate any issues Support internal projects and assist with Cyber Essentials readiness and compliance Contribute to ongoing improvements in how we run IT at Safer Sphere

What We're Looking For

Experience in a hands-on IT support or infrastructure role (e.g. IT Engineer, Technician, Systems Admin) Confident working knowledge of Microsoft 365, Azure AD, and Windows 10/11 Experience managing endpoints via InTune or similar MDM platforms Solid understanding of backup, patching, and system monitoring Someone who thrives under pressure, adapts quickly, and gets things done Great communication, clear documentation habits, and a calm, collaborative approach

Desirable Experience

Familiarity with ITSM tools like Autotask or HaloITSM Understanding of Cyber Essentials or ISO 27001 frameworks Exposure to ITIL or structured service environments Experience working in SME or consultancy settings

About You

You're practical, dependable, and not afraid to get stuck in. You take pride in solving problems, not just fixing issues, and you know how to keep things running smoothly behind the scenes so the wider business can operate at its best. You're ready to build something, not just maintain it.

Why join Safer Sphere?

We're a national, award-winning consultancy specialising in

Construction Health & Safety, CDM, and Building Safety

. We work on high-profile projects across sectors, and we care about doing things the right way - not just the easy way.
