Job Description

We are seeking an experienced IT Infrastructure Engineer to join our team and play a key role in implementing, maintaining, and securing our organisation's core IT infrastructure. This position covers both on-premises and cloud environments, ensuring systems are reliable, secure, and aligned with business needs.



The role requires strong technical expertise in Microsoft 365 (including Entra ID and Azure), with additional experience in security tools such as Microsoft Defender and Mimecast. The successful candidate will be proactive, collaborative, and passionate about delivering robust IT services.



Based at Thorpe Park, Leeds, with hybrid working and a minimum of two on-site days per week.

Key Responsibilities


Reporting to the Group Operations and Architecture Manager, the key responsibilities and duties will include:

Infrastructure Management & Support


Administering, maintaining, and optimising Microsoft 365 services, including Entra ID, Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, and Azure services. Managing and supporting VMware on-premises infrastructure, including virtualised servers, storage, and networking components. Ensuring infrastructure systems are patched, maintained, and aligned with best practices for availability, performance, and security. Providing escalation support for complex technical issues across the infrastructure stack.

Security & Compliance


Overseeing and maintaining security tools including Microsoft Defender and Mimecast, focusing on detection and response to potential threats. Co-ordinating and implementing vulnerability detection and remediation processes. Implementing security practices throughout infrastructure, including access control, patching, and configuration management. Assisting with security reviews and audits to help meet internal policies and industry regulations. Participating in incident response activities by providing technical support for infrastructure-related issues.

Continuous Improvement


Identifying opportunities to modernise, streamline, and improve infrastructure services. Keeping up to date with technology trends and recommend improvements that align with business goals. Collaborating with IT colleagues to ensure a secure, efficient, and resilient IT environment. Skills, Knowledge and Expertise


Background


Proven experience in IT operations, system administration, or cyber security - essential*.
Hands-on expertise with security tools, vulnerability management, and incident response - essential*.
Solid knowledge of security technologies (firewalls, IDS/IPS, SIEM, vulnerability scanners) - essential*.
Strong technical skills in Microsoft 365 (Entra ID, Exchange, Teams, SharePoint, Intune, Azure), Windows Server/Active Directory, and networking fundamentals (DNS, DHCP, VPNs, firewalls). Familiarity with Microsoft Defender and Mimecast. Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills across complex IT environments.

Qualifications


Degree qualified in Computer Science, Information Technology, or other relevant discipline - essential*.
Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, CompTIA Security+) - desirable*.
