Position
To provide and support information services for all divisions of the GI Group:to manage, maintain and support the Group's infrastructure, both on-premise and cloud-based.
to be a guardian of Group's core infrastructure
to support the business objectives of all divisions of the GI Group through specification,
procurement, installation, maintenance and support of IT hardware, software and communication
systemsto work with the Service Desk and business areas to resolve production issues.
Requirements
Overview of DutiesProvide technical and problem-solving support to IT staff and assist as necessary
Day-to-day Management of core infrastructure. (VMware / Storage / Networking / Routers /
Switches / Azure environment, etc)Monitor live environment through internal monitoring systems keeping both hardware and
software running.Provision of support to clients both internal and external (1st, 2nd and 3rd line support as skills
and experience permit)Configuration, operation and management of backups.
installation, configuration and maintenance of computer servers, workstations and peripherals
Configuration, operation and management of on premise and cloud infrastructure.
Configuration and maintenance of networks
Configuration and management of switches, routers and in conjunctions with the security
engineer firewallsAdministration of Windows AD domains including backing up of data, maintaining user
accounts, etcConfiguration and support of back-office systems
Adherence to company change control procedures
Creation and maintenance of system documentation
Problem management and escalation
Configuration, monitoring and maintenance of anti-virus systems
Evaluation of equipment, software and systems
Recommendation and implementation of enhancements to core systems
Assisting in process improvement to reduce the cost of quality and to increase efficiency and
client satisfactionResponding to out-of-hours calls for assistance, attending on-site if necessary
Assisting the IT Service Desk Manager with staff mentoring and training.
Personal ProfileHighly motivated and driven to deliver outstanding customer service, with strong attention to
detail, proactive approach to working and a willingness to take ownershipStrong written and verbal communication skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Willingness to learn and develop new skills
Minimum of 5 years' experience in an IT Infrastructure Engineer role
Experience of mentoring other team members Organised, with an ability to prioritise workload and remain organised whilst meeting deadlines
Excellent time management, able to schedule personal workload within a fast-paced environment Able to work both as part of a team or under own initiative Able to take responsibility for own actions and performance
Have a positive attitude to customer problems and incidents in a high-pressured environment Experience/understanding of ITIL methodology Proven technical experience within a helpdesk or support desk environment, supporting both hardware and software IT systems
Technical background with prior experience of VMware, vSphere, Veeam, Azure Cloud, M365, Active Directory, MS operating systems, etc
Working technical knowledge of common hardware, software and networking faults
Understanding of IP networks traffic, firewalls, routing, hardware What to Expect
We are a friendly place to work, but due to the nature of the work, you may be expected to work shifts or be on call and it may be necessary to work extra hours to finish a job.
Scheduled work will be planned in and TOIL given, overtime is paid for call outs.
We have multiple sites withing the group portfolio (Kettering, Northampton, London), cover and travel between sites should be expected.
Travel within a working day is sometimes needed and may be required at short notice.
