We are seeking an experienced and proactive IT professional to join Dunottar School as our IT Network Manager. The IT Network Manager will oversee the strategic and operational management of Dunottar School's ICT systems. This includes ensuring the security, reliability, and growth of network systems, managing IT support services, and leading the ICT team to deliver high-quality technology solutions. The role supports all aspects of school life, enhancing teaching, learning, and administrative operations. The postholder will line manage the IT Technician and Theatre & AV Manager, who provide essential support across hardware, software, audiovisual services, and helpdesk operations.
The IT Network Manager reports directly to the Deputy Head (Operations).
Key Responsibilities
Strategic & Operational Leadership
Develop and implement the school's IT strategy in line with educational and operational goals.
Manage the school's ICT infrastructure, including servers, networks, and security systems.
Ensure the delivery of IT across the school and within the curriculum.
Lead on IT-related projects and upgrades e.g. iPad roll out and leases.
Manage IT budgets, procurement, and supplier relationships.
Contribute to monthly IT reporting and performance reviews.
Promote the effective use of ICT systems and equipment across the school.
Maintain a forward-looking, visionary approach to technology, exploring emerging tools and innovations, including AI, to enhance teaching, learning, and operational efficiency.
Network & Systems Management
Administer and maintain core network services including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and firewall configurations.
Oversee network administration including user setup, access rights, and file space allocation.
Ensure robust cybersecurity measures and data protection compliance.
Maintain a high level of network security including firewalls, antivirus, access control, and backups.
Oversee server infrastructure, disaster recovery, and cloud services.
Maintain and upgrade software applications, staying current with educational technology developments.
Manage networked services including WiFi, telephony, entry systems and printing solutions.
Monitor and review ICT systems and recommend improvements.
IT Support & Service Delivery
Support contract award processes, including drafting award recommendations and notifications.
Manage the ICT helpdesk and ensure timely resolution of technical issues.
Provide second-line support and escalate complex issues as needed.
Deliver a customer-friendly service to staff and pupils.
Provide technical website support and assist with ongoing development.
Support remote access for staff and pupils.
Log and monitor support requests against service levels.
Deliver training and support on IT systems and digital safety.
Manage and support key school systems, including Inventry and the School Cloud parents' evening system.
Team & Department Management
Line manage the IT Technician and Theatre & AV Manager, ensuring effective deployment of their IT support skills.
Hold regular team meetings to communicate updates and address issues.
Manage performance, conduct appraisals, and promote professional development.
Assist with recruitment, induction, and training of new staff.
Support succession planning and skill development within the ICT team.
Take ownership of technical aspects of ICT projects and related service contracts.
Compliance & Safeguarding
Ensure compliance with GDPR, safeguarding, and health and safety policies.
Maintain accurate documentation of systems, procedures, and asset registers.
Assist with budget management for ICT purchases, repairs, and consumables.
Liaise with external agencies for repairs and service contracts.
Support the Deputy Head, Operations and Senior Leadership Team on ICT policy and emerging technologies.
Additional Activities
Regularly attend United Learning Network Manager Webinars.
Observe health and safety procedures and work safely at all times.
Adhere to child protection and safeguarding policies.
Provide relevant advice and guidance to staff, pupils and parents.
Deliver in-house training as appropriate.
Maintain awareness of developments in IT and education.
Participate in induction, staff review, and CPD opportunities.
