About Us
The Blue Magpie Foundation runs
NextGen Dev
, a youth programme in Harrow supporting 14-18 year olds who are at risk of alcohol and substance misuse. We use
coding, app development, and ethical hacking
as a therapeutic hook to build confidence, purpose, and resilience. Each session also includes open conversations about wellbeing, choices, and peer pressure.
The Roles
We are recruiting for two sessional roles on a
40-week contract
:
Teacher (Lead Tutor)
Deliver weekly sessions in coding, app development, and ethical hacking.
Lead a 15-minute discussion each week on alcohol and substance misuse, supported by lived-experience mentors.
Create a safe, trauma-informed learning space.
Support optional end-of-session wellbeing check-ins and signpost to further support.
Teaching Assistant
Provide one-to-one encouragement and learning support.
Assist with classroom set-up, tech equipment, and behaviour.
Help with end-of-session check-ins and progress notes.
Support guest speaker sessions and recognition events.
Who this is ideal for
Graduate or postgraduate students
in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Education, or Psychology seeking applied youth work experience.
Freelance tutors
looking for a consistent side role with strong social impact.
Youth workers
with digital confidence who want to expand their skills.
Contract and Pay
Teacher:
15/hour, 2 hours per week, 40 weeks = 1,200 total.
there may be opportunities to grow into larger roles within the Blue Magpie Foundation
for the right candidate.

Pay: 13.00-15.00 per hour
Expected hours: 2 per week
Ability to commute/relocate:
Harrow: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

This role involves leading or supporting a short weekly discussion on the risks of alcohol and substance misuse. We provide the content, but we are looking for staff who can bring authenticity and empathy, either through lived experience (yourself or someone close to you) or through professional experience.
Are you comfortable drawing on your experience or perspective in order to help young people feel understood and supported?
Are you willing to undergo an enhanced DBS check as part of the recruitment process, and do you expect to pass this check?
Are you available to teach on Mondays from 3:30pm to 5:30pm in-person in Harrow for 40 weeks from mid-Sept?
