IT TECHNICIAN (1st & 2nd Line)

Salary Range - 25,000 to 35,000 a year

Job type - Full time, Permanent
Location - West Midlands, occasional site visits plus monthly meetings at head office. Working from home possible.

Your new role

As a 1st & 2nd line IT technician you will be required to work as part of a dedicated team looking after the IT needs of our customers that range from individual clients through to multi-national, small to large scale organisations. We act as the internal IT department for our clients, assisting them in their use of IT equipment and telephone systems.

Key Responsibilities:

- Manage & support Linux-based servers (CentOS, AlmaLinux)

- Administer shared hosting and VPS environments (Plesk, Virtuozzo)

- Troubleshoot and maintain web services (Apache, Nginx, PHP, MySQL)

- Write and maintain Bash scripts for automation and monitoring

- Handle mail server and DNS configurations (Postfix, Dovecot, BIND)

- Assist with system hardening and monitoring tools (Fail2Ban, Nagios, Zabbix)

- Participate in on-call support and incident response when needed

- Set up Microsoft 365 users and conifg

- Set up new user profiles on laptops/desktops

Essential skills

:

- Strong command-line Linux skills (Bash, systemd, networking tools)

- Experience with control panels like Plesk or cPanel

- Understanding of TCP/IP, HTTP(S), Mail, and DNS protocols

- Support of Microsoft desktop & server operating systems

- Support of end user (desktop, laptop and specialist) hardware

- Active Directory, user maintenance, setup and configuration

- Desktop and Laptop hardware installation and maintenance

Desirable skills

:

- Windows Server administration and PowerShell

- Experience with web application stacks (WordPress, LAMP)

- Familiarity with Let's Encrypt / Certbot and SSL troubleshooting

- Exposure to virtualisation platforms (Virtuozzo, KVM, Proxmox)

- Mobile device (Apple IOS/Android) support

- VoIP telephony systems

- A valid UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
