We are looking for an experienced chef in Italian cuisine for a small, trattoria-style Italian restaurant in the Angel/Barbican area. The candidate must have a high skill set in all aspects of the kitchen and have the willingness to work independently to prepare, execute and deliver whilst working with a minimal team. The chef must be comfortable with a menu including pizza, pasta, fish and steak. Due to the constraints of the kitchen, organisation and wastage management is a must for the business.
Key skills include clear communication and the ability to work in a team. Hours required for this position are:
Mon- Fri 5pm-10pm
Sat 4pm-10pm
Responsibilities
Lead and supervise the kitchen team to ensure efficient food preparation and presentation in line with established standards
Oversee all aspects of food production, including planning menus, preparing ingredients, and cooking dishes to meet quality expectations
Manage daily kitchen operations, including inventory control, stock rotation, and maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards
Ensure compliance with food safety regulations and maintain proper documentation of safety procedures
Train and mentor junior staff, fostering a positive team environment centred on hospitality excellence
Collaborate with management to develop new menu items and improve existing offerings
Serve as a role model for professionalism, organisation, and customer service within the kitchen environment
Skills
Proven experience in a supervisory or leadership role within a professional kitchen setting
Extensive knowledge of food preparation techniques, cooking methods, and culinary trends
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently under pressure
Excellent team management abilities to motivate and develop staff members
In-depth understanding of food safety standards and regulations
Previous restaurant or hospitality experience is highly desirable
Exceptional communication skills to coordinate effectively with team members and front-of-house staff
Passion for culinary arts combined with a commitment to delivering outstanding guest experiences
