Job Description


Applications are invited for a Predoctoral Intern to join the Laboratory of Dr Sarah Guiziou in the Research Faculty of the Earlham Institute, based in Norwich, UK.

Background:

The Predoctoral Intern will join the Engineering Biology group at the Earlham Institute, particularly the group composed of members of Patron group and of the nascent Guiziou group.

The Guiziou group aims to elucidate and engineer plant development and plant-microbe interactions for sustainable agriculture. The group\'s research fits into the Earlham institute\'s scientific focus on engineering biology. The intern\'s research will contribute to one of the group\'s projects on engineering plant root architecture using integrase-based technology.

The role:

The intern will work on the engineering of root architectures in A. thaliana using integrase-based technology to facilitate the adaptation of plants to the fast change of climate. They will receive training in both plant biology and synthetic biology, therefore the role is open to those early in their careers.

The post holder will be provided with bespoke training from Earlham Institute\'s research faculty, will fully engage in our research environment, and will have access to core skills training, and all scientific facilities (e.g. biofoundry and glasshouse).

The ideal candidate:

We are seeking to recruit a Predoctoral Intern in data-driven plant bioinformatics to join our cohort of PhD students and interns at the Earlham Institute. Applications are encouraged from undergraduate or masters students who have completed or expect to complete an undergraduate degree in biology, bioengineering, or biochemistry prior to commencing internship.

The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in plant biology and synthetic biology or engineering and will have experience in managing multiple pieces of work to competing deadlines. Experience in basic molecular biology techniques would be advantageous, but is not essential.

Additional information:

Salary on appointment will be \xc2\xa321,000 per annum. The internship is available full-time for twelve months.
