Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Joinery Tutor / Assessor to join our team. This pivotal role involves delivering engaging practical and theoretical training in joinery, assessing learner progress, and supporting individuals through their qualifications. You will be instrumental in shaping the next generation of skilled joiners, guiding them from foundational concepts to advanced techniques.

Key Responsibilities



Instruction and Training:



o Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality practical and theoretical joinery sessions to learners at various levels (e.g., Level 1, 2, 3, NVQ, or Apprenticeship standards).

o Demonstrate a wide range of joinery techniques, tool usage (hand and machine), and best practices in a workshop environment.

o Develop and adapt engaging teaching materials, lesson plans, and resources to meet diverse learning needs.

Assessment and Learner Support:



o Conduct formative and summative assessments, including practical observations, written tests, and portfolio reviews, ensuring compliance with awarding body standards.

o Provide constructive feedback to learners, identify areas for improvement, and support them in achieving their qualification goals.

o Act as a personal tutor, offering educational and welfare guidance, monitoring attendance, and tracking individual progress.

o Support learners in preparing individual action plans and ensuring their continued engagement.

Curriculum and Quality Assurance:



o Contribute to the ongoing development and review of joinery curriculum, ensuring it remains current with industry trends, technological advancements, and relevant health and safety standards.

o Maintain accurate records relating to student attendance, achievement, and administrative documentation.

o Participate in internal verification processes and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.

Workshop Management:



o Ensure the joinery workshop is maintained to current Health & Safety standards.

o Manage and prepare physical materials and equipment for training activities.

o Carry out maintenance on tools and workshop equipment, and coordinate ordering of new materials.

Skills & Experience Required



Joinery Expertise:

Significant practical experience (e.g., minimum 3-5 years) as a qualified joiner in the construction or related industry, with a strong understanding of various joinery techniques and practices.

Teaching Aptitude:

A passion for teaching and the ability to inspire and motivate learners of all ages and abilities.

Communication Skills:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of explaining complex technical information clearly.

Organisational Skills:

Strong planning, organisational, and administrative skills to manage lesson delivery, assessments, and record-keeping efficiently.

Health & Safety:

Thorough understanding and commitment to maintaining high Health & Safety standards in a workshop environment.

IT Proficiency:

Competent IT skills for record-keeping, material preparation, and communication.

Qualifications:



o A minimum of a Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) in Joinery or Carpentry.

o Ideally hold or be willing to work towards a recognised teaching qualification (e.g., Cert Ed, PTLLS, AET, DTLLS, PGCE, or equivalent). Support for gaining this may be available.

o Assessor award (e.g., A1/TAQA) or a willingness to achieve one.

Pay: 35,880.00-40,108.86 per year
