PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: 27,600 - 33,900 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
Working as part of our talented team of journalists, you'll be covering the stories which matter to the people of Shropshire. We're looking for someone who is creative, has a nose for an original story and can cover anything from a police drugs raid, to a missing capybara. You'll be working across platforms - and providing engaging content for online, radio, TV and social media. Ideally you'll also have experience of reading bulletins although this is not essential.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

  • Delivering strong original journalism
  • Work with programme teams to develop creative and engaging content.
  • Willingness to learn new skills, and put them into practice.
  • A self-starter you'll be able to work on your own as well as part of a team.
  • Develop a good knowledge of the area, and the issues which matter to the people who live here.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
  • Good news judgment and grasp of editorial and legal guidelines.
  • Ability to make and nurture new contacts.
  • Track record of finding stories, and an ability to make them work across multiple platforms.
  • Strong on-air voice
  • Great writing skills
DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:
  • Knowledge of BBC systems including Optimo, Dira and OpenMedia.
  • Experience of news reading.
  • Full Driving licence
  • A knowledge of the issues which are important to working families in Shropshire.
