Applications are invited for a Junior Clinical Fellow post in Tertiary Neonatology at Noah's Ark Children's Hospital in Cardiff. This post is available from March 2024 for 6 months, but may be extendable up to a maximum of 24 months .The Cardiff and Vale University Local Health Board offers a full range of regional specialties for children in Wales. This is an exciting opportunity to gain Neonatal experience at a world class Children's hospital, with a wealth of training and education opportunities available to successful applicants. The NICU at the UHW site provides specialised tertiary neonatal services for the whole population of South Wales with a small number of referrals from England. Whilst these are not accredited training posts, they attract the same training opportunities, including study leave, a named educational supervisor, and a very active educational program equal to that received by deanery trainees.There is a possibility of extension of the contract with good prospects of 6-monthly rotation through the range of paediatric subspecialties within the Children's Hospital, subject to your performance, interest, and post availability nearer the time. The Children's Hospital for Wales offers a full range of Regional Specialties for children in Wales.Main duties of the jobThis job is a full-time, full shift pattern 1:8 rota. It includes duties in the evenings, at night and at weekends. The rota is shared with Paediatric and Neonatal trainees (ST1-ST3) from Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW), with equal opportunities for study leave, educational activities and quality improvement projects. The postholder will have the opportunity to develop a specific aspect of the service as a management role after discussion with his/her educational supervisor.The 8-week rolling rota includes an opportunity to gain experience in each area of the neonatal ward including ITU, HDU, Nursery and post-natal ward. There is a spread of out-of-hours shifts including evenings (one week in total), weekends (3 weekends in 8 in total) and nights (one week in total in two separate batches). Annual leave is flexible and the post holder is encouraged to organise leave with other colleagues maintaining prospective cover.About usCardiff and Vale University Health Board is one of the largest Integrated Health Boards in the UK, employing over 15,000 staff, providing over 100 specialist services.
