Job Description

The post will be required to support the delivery of outpatient, inpatient and emergency services for the local population and in doing so foster excellent working relationships within and outside the specialist area, including medical, nursing, secretarial and support staff, General Practitioners and Management Teams.



The post will be expected to take part in the 1:6 T&O daytime on call in conjunction with the General Surgery/ENT/Urology/T&O 1:12 night on call cover based at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital with potential to include other CTM sites.



The successful candidate will be one of a number of junior Doctors who will be supported by a team of consultants, middle grades, junior doctors and nurse practitioners.



Work with the rest of the clinical team to support the delivery of a high-quality service provided by well-trained staff within clear departmental policies and procedures.



Develop and maintain good communication with clinical colleagues across the Health Board, regarding the treatment of their patients, and the appropriate use of the department's resources.



Required to participate in the Health Board Risk Management process and in Clinical Audit and other clinical governance activities within the department, the directorate and the Health Board. The post holder will be positively encouraged to participate in research and development in line with Health Board, Commissioner and NHS priorities.



In liaison with senior medical colleagues have responsibility for the proper functioning of the department in line with the operational policy and strategic plan of the Health Board.



The post holder will be required to participate in the on call rota and will be supported in this by a middle grade and consultant from within the Trauma and Orthopaedic Department during daytime and respective departments at night.

RELATIONSHIPS



The successful candidate will be one of a number of junior Doctors who will be supported by a team of consultants, middle grades, junior doctors and nurse practitioners.



The role will cover all aspects of T&O services working at junior doctor grade. This is an ideal opportunity for candidates who wish to gain wider experience in an acute setting and help prepare them for higher training.



A wide range of general experience is a requirement, and special interests, which compliment existing services, will be supported.

ROLE



To assist with the delivery of care to trauma and orthopaedic patients. Elective activity will include exposure to sub specialities within Orthopaedics.



To enhance the Service Group within the Integrated Locality of Rhondda & Taff.



To assist in team building across all services and teams.



CLINCIAL SESSIONS include



Ward management of patients Outpatient Clinics Theatre Sessions Ward Rounds Pre Operative Assessment Post Operative Assessment On-call

SUPPORTING PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITY



Research Clinical Audit and Risk Management Administration Education and training.

Clinical Duties

Education and Training



To participate in a multi-disciplinary structured programme of training and education.



To comply with Professional standards including actively participating in appraisal and revalidation procedures.



Audit



To actively participate in regular and systematic multi-disciplinary clinical audit.



To participate at morbidity and mortality meetings ensuring lessons learned are shared



The post holder will be encouraged to initiate/ undertake research projects.



Management



The post holder will be required to co-operate with local management in the efficient running of services.
