We have an exciting opportunity for a Junior Drone Pilot to join Railscape/RUAS, supporting commercial drone operations across rail, infrastructure, surveying, construction, and emergency service environments.
Working closely with the Operations Team, you will assist with flight operations, mission planning, equipment maintenance, and compliance with aviation and rail safety standards. This is a hands-on, safety-critical role requiring a strong technical mindset and a proactive approach to working in regulated environments.
This role is suited to candidates with an existing technology or engineering background who are looking to transition into the Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) industry and develop a long-term career in drone operations.
Location & Travel Requirements
This role is based at our Head Office in Rayleigh, Essex, with regular travel to operational sites nationwide. The role will involve offsite working and may include paid overnight stays.
A full UK driving licence (manual transmission) is essential.

40 hours per week
Monday to Friday
Day shifts, with night shifts and weekend working required when operationally necessary

Salary from 25,396.80 per annum, dependent on experience

What You Will Be Responsible For
Supporting drone flight operations across a range of projects and environments
Completing pre-flight and post-flight inspections in line with CAA regulations
Assisting with mission planning and execution
Maintaining and troubleshooting drone hardware, software, and payload systems
Supporting the development and adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
Ensuring full compliance with aviation, rail, and company safety standards
What We're Looking For
Previous experience or qualification in a technology-focused field (e.g. engineering, robotics, GIS, aviation, software, or hardware)
Strong technical aptitude and willingness to learn
Good communication skills and ability to work under pressure
A proactive, safety-focused approach
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Desirable Skills & Experience
Knowledge of drone systems, payloads, and flight mechanics
Experience with rotary or fixed-wing drones
GIS mapping, photogrammetry, or data analysis experience
Familiarity with CAA regulations
Experience working in rail environments
