We are looking to recruit a Junior Engineer to work on innovative projects and solve real-world engineering problems producing bespoke solutions for industrial non-destructive testing equipment specialising in real-time x-ray imaging. The candidate is not expected to have previous experience of the x-ray sector and will be given training in the specifics of x-ray imaging, safety and regulatory issues as part of their role. We are seeking highly motivated people to join our small team who enjoy seeing projects from inception to delivery in a commercial environment. Candidates must already have the permanent right to work in the UK (e.g. ILR, settled status, or other status that does not require visa sponsorship), as we are unable to sponsor visas for this role.
This post would suit a flexible engineer who wishes to pursue a career in mechanical engineering who has both practical and design experience
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Supporting engineers with mechanical CAD design and modelling
Design, development and testing of mechanical components and integration with electronic systems.
Assist with the review and finalisation of models and designs produced by senior engineers
Assist with the acquisition of materials and assemble prototypes systems
Install and maintain mechanical and electronic tools, systems, and equipment.
Be involved in the mechanical assembly of products
Perform minor mechanical modifications to products
Generate and maintain Bill of Materials
Assist with the management and be compliant to the company's requirements under HSE and other regulatory controls.
Feedback to the technical team with improvement suggestions
Punctual, professional and a company ambassador
Manage own time
Assist other business functions when not on site
Assist other Group companies when required
Skills / Attributes:
The skills the successful candidate would possess will include most of the following:
Good understanding and practical experience of mechanical CAD design and modelling (SolidWorks).
Be capable of the design, development and testing of mechanical components and electronic systems.
Experience of 3D printing techniques and limitations.
Be able to product, edit, read and interpret mechanical drawings.
Have practical hands-on experience of:
o Mechanical assembly
o Capable of minor mechanical modifications, eg, drilling, tapping, filing, cutting etc
o Electrical test and debug
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excell, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc)
Desirable additional skills
Good understanding and practical experience of schematic for electronic and electrical systems
Be able to read and interpret electronic and electrical schematic diagrams and be able to follow these schematics to build electrical/ electronic assemblies:
o Wiring looms
o Cable assemblies
