Job Description

The Junior Administrative Engineer will support the Maintenance & Small Works Division by delivering high-quality administrative assistance while developing the technical understanding required for a future role in project or engineering support. This entry-level position offers hands-on experience in project coordination, compliance, and operations within an M&E contracting environment. With full training provided, including the opportunity for ONC/HNC sponsorship in Building Services Engineering, this is an ideal starting point for a motivated individual looking to build a long-term engineering career from an administrative foundation.

To assist the Managers and administrators with the day-to-day organisation of the maintenance operations and projects and assist with the engineering activities on Special Projects. The responsibilities as listed below but not limited to: -

Responsibilities:



Administrative Support & Coordination



Provide day-to-day support to the Maintenance & Small Works team, ensuring efficient office operations. Organise engineers' diaries, allocate jobs, and track task completion. Maintain accurate records of contracts, site visits, calibration schedules, and job logs. Process purchase orders, subcontractor instructions, and payment certificates. Handle incoming client calls, tenant queries, and engineer communications. Assist with document preparation for projects, including setting up folders and compiling SFG20 logbooks. Support the invoicing process and liaise with accounts on project billing matters

Communication & Liaison



Act as a key point of contact between the office and field-based engineering team. Liaise with clients to update on project/job status and respond to enquiries professionally. Maintain positive relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, and clients. Collaborate with wider Watkins teams including Contracts, Finance, and HSEQ functions.

Key Competencies & Skills:



Strong organisational and multitasking abilities in a fast-paced environment. High attention to detail with a methodical and proactive approach. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). A desire to learn and progress within the M&E industry. Reliable, adaptable, and a team player with a positive attitude.

Qualifications & Experience:



GCSEs (including Maths and English) required; A-Levels or equivalent desirable. Previous office or administrative experience advantageous but not essential. Interest in building services or engineering as a long-term career. Full UK Driving Licence preferred but not essential. Willingness to pursue ONC/HNC in Building Services Engineering (fully supported).

Accurate and timely coordination of engineer schedules and project administration. Maintenance of organised and compliant documentation and reporting records. Clear and professional communication with internal and external stakeholders. Demonstrated growth in technical understanding and initiative in support tasks. Strong contribution to team efficiency and service delivery through administrative reliability.

Requirements:



Keen attitude towards learning and a "can do" approach to work Knowledge of Building Services installations would be advantageous but not essential Competent on Microsoft IT system Good telephone manner Training will be provided where necessary with the possibility of leading to ONC in Mechanical Building Services
