Job Overview:


We are seeking a dedicated and motivated Junior Product Development and Test Engineer to join our dynamic R&D team. The overall purpose of the role will be to support the design, testing and conformity processes to ensure accurate components/products can be sourced or manufactured. The position provides mechanical engineering and testing support while upholding the company's professionalism and ethical standards. This role involves close collaboration with teams across Quality, Production, Industrialisation, and Marketing, as well as with external toolmakers and suppliers. Occasional travel to other Legrand sites and associated locations, both nationally and internationally, will be required.

Key Duties:



Assist in improving existing designs and processing change requests. Researching, designing, developing, validating new products. Support the specification and development of next-generation power and cable management products, ensuring they meet marketing requirements and comply with the latest National and International standards. Help produce and maintain technical files to comply with UK Regulations and EU directives. Follow design and development procedures as required by ISO9001 and Legrand's ECO design policy. Participate in type testing and assist with test reporting and safety protocols in the test facility in accordance with ISO 17025. Collaborate with the Industrialization department to ensure designs are practical and cost effective for production. Provide technical details to the Purchasing department for sourcing parts from external suppliers. Work with the marketing team to verify the technical content of catalogues and technical manuals. Support the technical department on electrical and mechanical issues related to company products. Utilize 2D and 3D CAD software effectively in design tasks. Promote and adhere to Legrand Group Values and Code of Ethics.

Key Attributes:



Basic knowledge of UK Wiring Regulations and relevant national and international standards. Educated to Degree/HND level in an electrical, mechanical or related engineering discipline. Membership in the IET, IMechE, or equivalent engineering/technical institution is preferred. Some experience in mechanical design and/or testing within a low voltage cable management or power distribution product manufacturing environment is desirable. Familiarity with Power Distribution and Cable Management Products. Ability to assist in planning and managing product development projects and type testing programs. Basic knowledge in using AUTOCAD/INVENTOR, SolidWorks and 3D Modelling systems and sheet metal modelling. Good IT skills, including proficiency in spreadsheets, engineering databases, and presentation tools. Effective communication skills to interact with various stakeholders inside and outside the company. Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Self-motivated and capable of working independently. Willingness to travel within and outside the UK as needed. Experience or knowledge of ISO 17025 test facility requirements is a plus. Sheet metal modelling is desirable Knowledge or understanding of Plastic Injection mouldings, Diecasting and similar desirable. Basic knowledge or understanding of Engineering Materials e.g. ferrous, nonferrous metals and polymers. Basic knowledge or understanding of Mechanical simulation Using tools like Inventor, Ansys Basic knowledge or understanding of Type Testing e.g. Temperature Rise, Mechanical loading, Glow-Wire etc. Electrical Panel Layout and wiring schematic etc.

Working Hours:



Full time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 08:30 to 16:30
