Role Overview:


We are seeking a dedicated and motivated Product Development and Test Engineer to join our dynamic R&D team. The overall purpose of the role will be to plan and participate in the design, development and validation of cable management and power products. This position oversees the design, testing, and compliance processes throughout development to ensure precise components and products are manufactured or sourced, whether internally within Legrand or through subcontractors. The role also provides mechanical engineering expertise and testing support while upholding the company's standards of professionalism and ethics. This role involves close collaboration with teams across Quality, Production, Industrialisation, and Marketing, as well as with external toolmakers and suppliers. Occasional travel to other Legrand sites and associated locations, both nationally and internationally, will be required.

Key Duties:



Value engineering and updating current designs and design review. Research, design, develop &validate new products. Specify & develop the next generation of power & cable management products taking account of marketing requirements to produce functional products of new or improved design to conform to the latest National and International standards. Produce & maintain technical files to meet the requirements of UK Regulations and & EU directives. Follow design & development procedures as required by ISO9001 and Legrand's ECO design policy. Manage type testing, test reporting, records & safety in the test facility in accordance with ISO 17025. Liaise with Industrialisation department to produce practical designs so that products can be made at the appropriate cost. Provide Purchasing department with technical details for the purchase of parts from external suppliers. Liaise with marketing to check the technical content of catalogues & technical manuals. Support the technical department on electrical and mechanical matters relating to company products. Suitably experienced in the use of 2D and 3D CAD. Abide by & actively promote the Legrand Group Values & Code of Ethics.

Key Attributes:



Have a working knowledge of UK Wiring Regulations, associated national & international standards. Educated to Degree/HND level in an electrical, mechanical or related engineering discipline or product design Degree/HND level. Membership of the IET, IMechE or equivalent engineering / technical institution is preferred. Previous mechanical design/testing work in low voltage cable management or power distribution product manufacturing environment. Experience of testing & reporting in an ISO 17025 accredited test facility is preferred. Have knowledge of Power Distribution & Cable Management Products. Have the ability to plan & manage product development projects & product type test programmes. Be competent in the use of AUTOCAD/INVENTOR, SolidWorks and 3D and sheet metal modelling. Have good IT skills (spreadsheets, engineering databases, presentation tools). Be able to communicate well at all levels inside & outside the company. Be able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Be self-motivated & able to work unsupervised. Be able to travel within & outside the UK and work away from base location as appropriate. Have experience working in or knowledge of the requirements of an ISO 17025 test facility is preferred. Sheet metal modelling is desirable. Knowledge or understanding of Plastic Injection mouldings, Diecasting etc. Basic knowledge or understanding of Engineering Materials e.g. ferrous, nonferrous metals and polymers. Basic knowledge or understanding of Mechanical simulation Using Inventor, Ansys Basic knowledge or understanding of Type Testing e.g. Temperature Rise, Mechanical loading, Glow-Wire etc. Electrical Panel Layout and wiring schematic etc. At least working knowledge of Single & Three Phase systems.

Working Hours:

Full time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 08:30 to 16:30
