About Us
The Beresford Arms is an independent, award-winning gastropub nestled in the village of Whalton. Recognised for our exceptional food, hospitality, and accommodation, we have proudly earned accolades including Gold for B&B of the Year, Pub of the Year, and Food & Drink Business of the Year.
Our culinary approach reimagines classic British pub dishes with a 'Beresford twist' -- focusing on fresh, seasonal, and locally sourced ingredients. From our signature Bacon Loin Chop with garden lovage emulsion to creative dishes like Roasted Pork Chop with Pork Collar Bolognaise Cottage Pie, our menu balances tradition and innovation.
We also like to do things differently. We regularly host vibrant street food events on bank holidays, tapas nights, seasonal tasting menus, and other themed food nights. We are also proud to collaborate regularly with Michelin-starred chef Tom Parker of The White Swan at Fence, who brings further inspiration and training to our kitchen.
The Role
As Junior Sous Chef, you will be a key part of our kitchen brigade, working closely with the Head Chef and Senior Sous Chef to deliver high-quality dishes and maintain smooth kitchen operations.
Responsibilities include:
Leading a section during service and maintaining consistent quality and presentation
Assisting in the development of new dishes and seasonal menus
Upholding excellent food safety, hygiene, and health standards
Helping to mentor and train junior kitchen staff
Assisting with stock management, ordering, and kitchen organisation
What We're Looking For
A minimum of 3 years' experience in a fresh-food kitchen
Proven ability to manage a section and perform under pressure
A real passion for innovative cooking and seasonal produce
Strong understanding of health, safety, and hygiene standards
A positive, reliable, and collaborative attitude
Important Information
You must have reliable transport, as we are not accessible by public transport
Live-in accommodation is not available for this role
