We have an exciting opportunity for a Junior Systems Administrator to join our IT team on a Permanent basis.

About the Role

You will assist in the delivery of a high quality, customer focused, IT and telecommunications service to the Institute by participating in the service desk rota, responding to telephone calls, allocating work tickets accordingly, helping set priorities and escalating problems to more senior members of the IT team as required. You will provide technical support, help and guidance to facilitate the effective use of the IT infrastructure resource in support of the aims of the Institute.

You will work independently and with other team members to develop effective working relationships with customers to increase the understanding of and satisfy end users needs and enhance the IT service provision.

You will collaborate with other members of the IT support team and managers as directed, to implement systems and solutions, ensuring a high level of availability and quality.

You should assist in the evaluation of desktop hardware, software and IT consumables to ensure that products purchased are of the appropriate quality and specification and meet the needs of the end users.

You will investigate and resolve IT/telecoms issues as directed and to carry out daily operational tasks as directed by the Senior Systems Administrators or Service Delivery manager.

About the Team

You will be joining a motivated Service Desk team who aspires to provide great customer service to our customers. We work as a team and support one another to reach our goals whilst you will receive day-to-day training support from your fellow engineers with external courses provided to assist you in your career at Sanger Institute.

You will be required to provide 1st line support from incident and service requests whilst also answering phone queries and assisting customers who call into the Service Desk office.

Essential Technical Skills:

Ability to explain technical issues to non-technical users

Must be able to demonstrate an aptitude for working with IT

Desirables Technical Skills:

Have an appreciation of computer hardware, peripherals and networking.

Knowledge or experience of Unix System Administration

Essential Competencies and Behaviours:

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Experience of delivering customer focused services

Problem solving/analytical skills

Have the capacity and enthusiasm for learning new skills and technologies

Ability to work under pressure
