We're looking for a hands-on, reliable Kitchen Assistant to join our new cafe kitchen. You'll be working alongside our kitchen porter in a two-person setup, taking the lead on prepping food, making sandwiches and toasties, baking cakes and scones, and supporting daily kitchen operations.
This is a great role for someone who enjoys working in a small team, takes pride in their prep and baking, and can stay organised under pressure.
Responsibilities
Prepare daily ingredients for service (vegetables, spreads, sauces, meats)
Make and assemble sandwiches, toasties, and other simple menu items
Bake cakes, scones, and other in-house baked goods
Maintain food safety and hygiene standards at all times
Label, date, and store ingredients properly
Support with kitchen cleaning, organisation, and stock rotation
Work efficiently in a compact kitchen space with a focus on cleanliness and speed
Experience
Previous experience in a kitchen environment is preferred but not essential; a willingness to learn is key.
Familiarity with culinary techniques and food preparation methods will be advantageous.
Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices is highly desirable.
Ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining attention to detail.
Strong communication skills and a team-oriented attitude are essential for success in this role.
