Join Our Fun and Friendly Nursery Team as a Kitchen Assistant!

Qualifications and Training

Basic Food Hygiene Certificate (or willingness to complete upon appointment). Level 2 Food Safety qualification (desirable but not essential).

Experience

Experience working in a kitchen, catering, or food preparation environment. Experience adhering to health and safety and food hygiene standards. Experience cooking or preparing meals for large groups (desirable).

Knowledge

Understanding of food hygiene and safety regulations. Basic knowledge of dietary requirements, allergies, and healthy eating for children (training provided). Awareness of COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) (desirable).

Skills and Abilities

Ability to follow recipes and meal plans accurately. Good organisational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work efficiently under time constraints. Strong communication skills to liaise with nursery staff about meal requirements. Ability to maintain a clean and organised kitchen environment.

Personal Attributes

Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently. Friendly and approachable with a positive attitude. Flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of the nursery. Passionate about providing nutritious and enjoyable meals for children.

It would be good if the candidate also had

1. Experience working in a nursery, school, or childcare setting.

2. Knowledge of portion control and planning balanced meals for young children.

3. First Aid training or willingness to undertake.

Other Requirements

Enhanced DBS check (Disclosure and Barring Service). Willingness to undertake additional training (e.g., allergen awareness, safeguarding). Ability to work flexibly to cover busy periods or assist with special nursery events.

Job Types: Permanent, Part-time
