Main Purpose of Job:
The Kitchen Assistant at Shelford Day Nursery plays a crucial role in maintaining a clean and efficient kitchen environment. This position primarily focuses on dishwashing but also involves various support tasks within the kitchen. The Kitchen Assistant reports to the Head Chef and works closely with other nursery staff.
Main Responsibilities and Tasks:
Dishwashing:
Thoroughly wash, rinse, and sanitise dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment.
Ensure that all dishes are cleaned promptly and stored appropriately.
Nursery Room Support:
Collect used dishes and utensils from the nursery rooms.
Maintain a friendly and approachable demeanour when interacting with nursery staff.
Kitchen Maintenance:
Keep the kitchen area clean and organised, including countertops, sinks, and equipment.
Assist in maintaining kitchen inventory by keeping track of supplies and reporting when they need replenishment.
Rubbish Disposal:
Empty rubbish bins in the kitchen and dispose of rubbish properly.
Maintain cleanliness in waste disposal areas.
Food Preparation Assistance:
Assist the chef in basic food preparation tasks, such as chopping vegetables, measuring ingredients, and assembling food items.
Follow food safety guidelines while handling food.
Actively strive to meet all the requirements for obtaining a 5-star food hygiene rating.
Use the 'Safer Foods Better Businesses for Caterers' guidelines effectively including the completion of all daily checks.
To be accountable for the delivery of the above responsibilities and tasks.
Provide support to the wider nursery team as required.
Undertake any other duties that may be required for the effective operation of the nursery catering services.
Additional Information
This post is exempt from The Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 as the position involves working within the close proximity of young children. The post holder will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS disclosure and to be a member of the DBS Update Service.
All staff will be subject to regular supervision sessions and will be required to sign a suitability declaration on an annual basis to ensure that ongoing suitability is monitored.
All staff must hold an in date paediatric first aid certificate.
All employees are made aware of their responsibility to notify the manager immediately of any changes to their circumstances that may affect their suitability to work with children - this is also the case in terms of any changes to the circumstances of those who live with the member of staff.
