Assist the cook(s) to provide a high standard catering service.
To maintain a high standard of hygiene and cleanliness in the kitchen and dining room.
MAIN DUTIES
Assist the cook(s) with the preparation of meals, carrying out tasks delegated by the cook(s).
Set dining tables, change table linen and clear tables at the end of each meal.
Advise residents of the choices available on the menu and take orders for meals. Advise the cook if an alternative to the menu is required.
Assist with the serving of meals. Report any concerns about changes in residents' appetite.
Report any feedback regarding the quality of meals provided or any suggestions for meals to be included on the menu to the Cook or Home Manager.
Washing and drying of dishes and utensils.
Ensure that all cleaning schedules are adhered to and that a high standard of cleanliness is maintained at all times. Cleaning to include food preparation areas, cupboards and storage areas, fridges and freezers, kitchen equipment, sweeping and mopping floors.
Report any malfunction of equipment or fittings that require maintenance or cannot be kept to standard through normal cleaning procedures.
Ensure that any out of date food is disposed of.
Adhere to guidelines and regulations of the Environmental Health Department and Food Standards Agency.
Ensure that waste is disposed of quickly and effectively, allowing time for a record of waste to be made.
Maintain a professional and hygienic appearance. Ensure correct footwear, clean uniform and headgear are worn at all times in accordance with health and safety and food hygiene legislation.
Ensure that all staff who enter the kitchen area adhere to Food Hygiene Legislation e.g. washing of hands, wearing of Aprons, gloves and other PPE etc.
Promote effective communication by participating in staff meetings, handovers, and by completing communication books, diary etc.
PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT
Take responsibility for ensuring that your skills and knowledge are up to date and attend relevant training courses, including mandatory training and other training specific to the post.
Attend and actively participate in supervisions and appraisals with your line manager.
Discuss any areas where additional support is required with the Home Manager.
GENERAL
Be familiar with and adhere to QHIP Ltd's policies and procedures in relation to your work to ensure that high standards of quality and good practice are maintained, developed and monitored. Be familiar with local and Institute procedures in respect of safeguarding and reporting allegations of abuse.
Ensure all reasonable precautions are taken to protect the safety and welfare of the residents, staff and visitors. Including following guidelines in respect of infection control. Report all incidents and potential hazards.
Ensure all people are treated with respect, compassion, hospitality, justice and trust in the course of your work, thereby promoting the Institute's core values and mission of equal opportunities through anti discriminatory practice.
Maintain confidentiality at all times. (Information concerning residents and staff, their conditions and affairs is strictly confidential and must not be disclosed to any unauthorised persons). Failure to maintain confidentiality could result in disciplinary action.
Carry out any additional duties to ensure the needs of the residents and the Home are met.
The post holder will be expected to work reasonable overtime or change shifts when required to cover sickness / holidays and to meet the needs of the Home. You will be required to work unsocial hours and weekends as necessary. The service operates 24 hours per day, seven day per week and flexibility is essential to meet the needs of the service
