Job Summary

We're looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Kitchen Assistant to join our team at The Hideout's new canteen in Tilbury, serving hot, hearty meals to hardworking construction staff.

This role is hands-on and fast-paced, perfect for someone who's reliable, enjoys working in a small team, and takes pride in keeping the kitchen running smoothly. You'll be helping with basic food prep, maintaining cleanliness, and assisting the chef during busy service times.

We're creating a welcoming, well-run canteen where quality, speed, and friendliness matter -- and you'll be a key part of making that happen.

Duties

Assist in the preparation of meals and ingredients according to established recipes and standards. Support cooks and chefs in various kitchen tasks, including chopping, slicing, and cooking as needed. Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen area, ensuring all equipment is properly cleaned and sanitised. Follow food safety guidelines to ensure the highest standards of hygiene are met. Help with catering events by preparing food items and setting up serving areas as required. Monitor stock levels of ingredients and report any shortages to the head chef or kitchen manager. Participate in training sessions to enhance culinary skills and knowledge of food preparation techniques.

Experience

Previous experience in a kitchen environment is preferred but not essential; a willingness to learn is key. Familiarity with food preparation techniques and safety regulations is advantageous. A background in catering or restaurant settings would be beneficial for this role. Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team are essential. A passion for cooking and an eagerness to develop culinary skills further will be highly regarded.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: 12.00-14.00 per hour

Expected hours: 15 - 30 per week
