Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Kitchen Assistant to join our kitchen team. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in supporting the kitchen staff by ensuring that food preparation and meal preparation processes run smoothly. This position is perfect for individuals looking to gain experience in a catering post in a care home setting.

Duties

Assist in food preparation tasks, including chopping, slicing, and measuring ingredients. Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen area, ensuring compliance with food safety standards. Help cooks and chefs with meal preparation, following instructions accurately. Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently. Assist with inventory management, including receiving deliveries and storing supplies properly. Support the team during service by preparing garnishes and plating dishes as required. Participate in cleaning duties after service, including washing dishes and sanitising work areas.

Skills

Previous experience in a catering environment is advantageous. Basic culinary skills with an understanding of food preparation techniques. Knowledge of food safety practices to ensure a hygienic kitchen environment. Ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate clearly with colleagues. Strong organisational skills with attention to detail to maintain high standards of cleanliness and presentation. Willingness to learn and adapt in a dynamic kitchen setting.
30 hours per week, 5 X 6 hour shifts from 12:00 to 18:00, over the 7 day week.
