to join our Mexican kitchen operating within a busy East London pub. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who takes pride in keeping a kitchen clean, organised, and running efficiently, and who is comfortable being actively involved during service.
Alongside core kitchen porter duties, the role includes general food prep and service support, such as chopping ingredients, assembling simple dishes, and helping ensure food goes out quickly and consistently during busy periods. Full training will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
Kitchen Organisation & Cleanliness
Maintain high standards of cleanliness across all kitchen areas, equipment, and utensils.
Take ownership of day-to-day kitchen organisation, ensuring prep areas, storage, and stations are kept tidy and functional.
Help implement and follow a regular deep-cleaning schedule (floors, fridges, shelving, extraction areas, etc.).
Keep the kitchen consistently clean, organised, and inspection-ready.
Food Preparation & Service Support
Assist with general food prep, including washing, chopping, portioning, and assembling simple hot and cold dishes.
Support the kitchen during service by following clear processes and maintaining speed and consistency.
Help keep service running smoothly across pub dining and delivery platforms.
Front-of-House Support
Help run food from the kitchen to tables when required.
Communicate clearly with the kitchen team to ensure dishes go out correctly and on time.
Food Safety & Hygiene
Follow all food safety, hygiene, and allergen procedures.
Maintain good practice around cross-contamination prevention, temperature control, and safe food handling.
Stock & General Support
Assist with deliveries, stock rotation, and correct storage of ingredients.
Take bins out and manage waste and recycling properly.
Requirements
Essential
Reliable, punctual, and comfortable working in a fast-paced pub kitchen.
Strong awareness of cleanliness, organisation, and hygiene standards.
Willingness to be hands-on with food prep and service support.
Proactive attitude -- able to spot problems and deal with them without being asked.
Preferred
Previous experience as a kitchen porter or kitchen assistant.
Experience assisting with food prep or service in a professional kitchen.
