: Kitchen assistants are responsible for preparing ingredients for cooking, which includes washing, chopping, and measuring food items. They may also assist in cooking simple dishes under the supervision of chefs.
Maintaining Cleanliness
: One of the primary duties is to keep the kitchen clean and organized. This includes washing dishes, cleaning surfaces, and ensuring that all kitchen equipment is sanitized and in good working order.
Assisting Chefs
: Kitchen assistants support chefs and kitchen managers by providing necessary supplies and helping with meal assembly. They ensure that the kitchen runs smoothly during service by being proactive and responsive to the needs of the kitchen staff.
Stock Management
: They help keep the kitchen stocked with necessary ingredients and supplies, ensuring that everything is organized and readily available for cooking.
Health and Safety Compliance
: Kitchen assistants must adhere to health and safety regulations, ensuring that food is prepared and stored safely to prevent contamination.
Carry out any other duties reasonably requested to support the catering operation
Essential:
Basic understanding of kitchen hygiene and food safety
Good communication and teamwork skills
Physically fit and able to stand for long periods and carry out manual tasks
Willingness to learn and follow instructions
Reliable, punctual, and flexible approach to working hours
Desirable:
Experience working in a commercial or institutional kitchen
Level 1 or 2 Food Safety Certificate (training can be provided)
Knowledge of COSHH and manual handling procedures
