Key Responsibilities & Duties
This role supports the Cook in all kitchen operations, focusing on high standards of hygiene, meal preparation, and resident satisfaction.
Meal Preparation & Service
Assist the Cook promptly in the preparation of all daily meals and beverages, including ensuring high quality, correct quantity, and excellent presentation.
Expertly prepare special diet meals according to precise medical, ethnic, religious, and personal preferences, following instructions from the Cook, doctors, or managers.
Serve meals and beverages with a friendly approach, and assist residents/service users in making their menu choices.
Conduct food temperature checks before serving to ensure safety and quality standards are met.
Kitchen & Hygiene Management
Maintain impeccable standards of kitchen cleanliness and hygiene at all times.
Perform scheduled, deep cleaning of the kitchen, fridges, freezers, and store rooms.
Monitor and record fridge/freezer temperatures regularly and ensure the food stock room remains clean and tidy.
Manage the dishwashing process, including the operation of the dishwasher, to ensure all equipment, crockery, and cutlery are clean and ready for immediate use.
Collect used crockery and cutlery and wash up as required.
Operational & Safety Compliance
Strictly adhere to all safe working procedures and safety regulations.
Report and remove from use any faulty equipment to the Business or Care Manager immediately.
Promote the economical use of materials and equipment, actively minimizing wastage.
Actively participate in resolving any resident catering complaints in conjunction with the Home Manager.
Attend all mandatory training sessions to stay compliant and up-to-date with best practices.
Skills & Qualifications
Proven experience as a Kitchen Assistant or in a similar professional catering role is essential.
A caring and resident-focused approach to service.
Strong understanding of food hygiene and safety practices (Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate is highly desirable).
Ability to follow detailed instructions accurately, particularly concerning special dietary requirements.
Reliable, organised, and a strong team player.
