We're looking for a

part-time Kitchen Assistant

to join our small, friendly team in our

family-run cafe in the heart of Steyning

.

What We're Looking For

Some kitchen experience preferred - or a genuine love of cooking or baking (even if that's mainly at home!) A team player who can work well in a small, busy kitchen Experience using cutting tools, cookware, and bakeware Ability to follow all sanitation and food safety procedures Comfortable standing for longer periods A positive attitude, good communication skills, and a friendly manner with both colleagues and customers Able to work efficiently during busy lunch shifts Baking skills are a plus - we make scones and cakes on site!

What You'll Be Doing

Helping with food prep, baking, and general kitchen tasks Assisting with cooking under the supervision of kitchen staff Maintaining high standards of cleanliness throughout the kitchen, including pot wash and deep-cleaning areas Following all health and safety regulations Supporting food production for our menu items - including sandwiches, savoury and sweet items, and cooked breakfasts Keeping the kitchen organised and running smoothly during service Optional: free coffee training if you'd like to rotate and help on the cafe floor as well

Requirements

Previous experience in a similar role is preferred but not essential Basic knowledge of culinary techniques and food preparation Ability to work in a fast-paced environment Strong attention to detail and cleanliness Excellent teamwork and communication skills Flexibility to work weekends and holidays as needed
