This role is a term-time role, working 25 hours hours x 40 weeks



Working for our subsidiary company, Sparks Managed Services, in the catering services department, you will play an important role in supporting the student and staff experience by providing high quality food and drink offers across our campuses.

The Kitchen Porter role will be key in maintaining a safe, clean and efficient kitchen and catering environment. This role will help ensure that our refectories, coffee shops and catering outlets operate smoothly, remain compliant with hygiene standards, and provide an excellent service to our students, staff and visitors.

Key Objectives:



Support the smooth operation of catering services through effective cleaning, stock handling and kitchen support


Maintain a safe, hygienic and clutter-free environment across all kitchen and catering areas


Contribute to a positive experience for students, staff and visitors through a helpful and professional approach

Main Responsibilities:



To achieve these objectives specific duties, include, but are not limited to:

Carry out regular deep cleaning of kitchen, food preparation and catering areas in line with health and safety and food hygiene requirements


Ensure all areas are kept clear of clutter, debris and hazards, maintaining a safe environment for staff and students


Support the movement and rotation of stock and deliveries, ensuring items are stored safely and appropriately


Undertake pot wash and cleaning of equipment, crockery and utensils as required


Assist catering staff by keeping work areas tidy and ensuring that equipment and supplies are available when needed


Dispose of waste correctly, following College recycling and sustainability procedures


Report maintenance, health and safety or hygiene concerns promptly to the Refectory Senior Supervisor


Support college events where catering services are provided, ensuring areas are cleaned and reset efficiently


Work flexibly as part of the catering services team, providing cover and support across outlets as required


From time-to-time these responsibilities may be reviewed so that they evolve as part of the college's strategic growth and success. You may also be required to take on other tasks related to the job to support the College in the delivery of its strategic aims, without changing the role's main purpose.

Cross College Responsibilities



You may be required to participate in cross-college teams and working groups on key projects.

You may need to attend relevant internal committees and groups.

You will act as a role model to colleagues, ensuring that the responsibilities of the post are carried out in line with the College's FREDIE+ values and behaviours.

Student Related Responsibilities



Anyone who has regular contact with children and young people in their day-to-day responsibilities must ensure they are safe. You will work with the Safeguarding Team, ensuring concerns regarding students/apprentices are shared in a timely, accurate manner You will be involved in supporting college open days, during the exam season student enrolment, and any other required events.

Other Responsibilities



All staff are responsible for ensuring the college provides a safe and sustainable environment for students, staff and visitors. You will support this by:

Understanding and undertaking the specific responsibilities for their role as documented within the Health and Safety Policies and procedures. Ensure compliance with Data Protection Regulations.


Ensure that environmental sustainability is a key consideration in the actions we take, working towards the college's environmental strategy and net zero ambition.

What we can offer you



As the successful candidate, you will be offered a salary of 24,727 per annum (this will be pro-rata'd for hours/weeks worked) based upon a combination of the skills, knowledge and experience that you can bring to the role.
