We are looking for a kitchen porter to support the chef team at Cafe Artysans by maintaining cleanliness and hygiene within the kitchen. This includes washing dishes, pots, pans, and utensils, cleaning the kitchen area, and assisting with basic food preparation. The successful candidate will also play a crucial part in waste management and ensuring the kitchen meets health and safety standards.
Cafe Artysans is operated by the Calman Trust charity as a workplace where young people can learn the skills they will need to have in future employment. In common with all members of staff therefore, the kitchen porter must support the wellbeing and learning of young people coming through Cafe Artysans.
Hours: 20 hours per week, usually 10.30am-2.30pm. Rota system, 5 days out of 6, through Monday to Saturday, closed Sunday. Very occasional evening work.
Terms: 12.60/hour
Key Responsibilities:
Carrying out basic cleaning tasks as fast as possible.
Collecting and washing up pots and pans.
Cleaning crockery & cutlery and ensuring food preparation sites are clean and ready.
Unloading equipment and food from deliveries.
Ensuring the storeroom remains organised.
Making sure work surfaces, floors and walls are always clean and sanitised.
Following cleaning schedules, using chemicals safely, and following all health and safety guidelines.
Assisting with basic food preparation tasks like washing, peeling, and chopping vegetables, as requested.
Working with the team of chefs to ensure a smooth kitchen operation.
