Why is this role important for Impact Solution's work?



Impact Solutions has an exciting opportunity to join the established materials testing team within the Impact Technology Centre (ITC) based at the Kirkton Campus in Livingston.

The team is focused on the delivery of projects aimed at and in collaboration with clients and partners working across several technology areas. A particular area of interest is in biodegradable materials of which Impact Solutions are technical specialists.

We are looking for a highly talented and motivated individual with a strong scientific background to develop and support the growth of the biodegradability testing facility. A successful candidate must have a keen interest in sustainability and be committed to making the world a greener place to benefit future generations.

As a key member of the biodegradability testing team, you will be expected to manage testing projects from sample preparation to report dissemination through the UKAS testing laboratory in adherence with the strict quality management system. As well as this, you will have the opportunity to develop new bespoke testing equipment and contribute to the development of new testing standards.

The candidate is not required to have but would benefit from a good understanding of the biodegradability process, variables effecting biodegradability and common testing standards. This position will be primarily laboratory-oriented and will involve chemical and mechanical analysis of samples. As well as this, the ideal candidate will be customer focussed and confident at providing assistance in technical sales.

The successful applicant must have a degree in biochemistry, chemistry or a related scientific discipline with strong applied technical know-how. Applicants are also expected to demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills and meticulous organisation skills.

You must have demonstrable laboratoryexperience with knowledge of a wide range of laboratory equipment and techniques. The applicant must have excellent people and communication skills with the ability to work within a team and influence decision making. You must have a solid understanding of scientific literature and research techniques. You must be able to make judgements based on sound reasoning and be able to discuss and communicate to a mixed audience of various backgrounds of expertise. You must be proficient in use of standard office IT software such as Microsoft Office programs and any other data analysis tools. You must be meticulous with your organisational skills in order to work autonomously and collaboratively.

The core role



To maintain consistent and documented compliance with all relevant Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE), quality and best practice requirements. Set up, plan and conduct material testing; to analyse, interpret and report results and translate obtained findings and knowledge. To be responsible for providing and presenting clearly documented records of technical data, decisions, methodologies, calculations and software use in an agreed format. Formulate and present possible solution directions and issue advice at request or at own initiative. Be knowledgeable in the subject area and outline testing plans to suit customer needs. Undertaking analytical testing of products and materials in our state-of-the-art laboratories. Provide analysis of data and prepare reports, including relevant conclusions and recommendations for further work programs. Responsible for your own time management to ensure deadlines are met.
