Job Description

We are looking for a skilled and proactive

Lab Technician

to join our team at Thompson Concrete Products Ltd. This role is essential to our operations, focusing on concrete sampling and testing,

concrete

,

recycled aggregates

, and

quarried aggregates

, ensuring results meet industry, customer, and compliance standards.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on technical work, is eager to learn new skills, and wants to contribute to a busy operational concrete batching plant & quarry.

Key Responsibilities



Perform

concrete sampling and testing

in accordance with UK and European standards Conduct

aggregate sampling and testing

, including gradation, moisture, density, flakiness, and other required parameters (e.g.,

BS EN 1097

,

BS EN 933

). Prepare and maintain accurate

laboratory records

, spreadsheets, and electronic test reports. Operate and maintain laboratory testing equipment Record, analyse, and report test results accurately using computer systems Ensure compliance with ISO 17025 quality management requirements Maintain laboratory cleanliness and safety standards Knowledge of concrete mix design principles and procedures Understanding of admixture types (plasticizers, superplasticizers, retarders, accelerators, air-entraining agents) and their applications Familiarity with BS 8500 (Concrete - Complementary British Standard to BS EN 206) Knowledge of British Standards including: BS 8500-1 & BS 8500-2 (Concrete mix design and specification) BS EN 206 (Concrete specification, performance, production and conformity) BS EN 12620 (Aggregates for concrete) BS EN 12390 series (Testing hardened concrete) BS EN 12350 series (Testing fresh concrete)

Required Qualifications & Experience



Previous experience in a

construction materials laboratory

, ideally concrete or aggregates. Experience working under

ISO/IEC 17025

quality systems. Basic to medium computer skills (Excel, email, data entry, LIMS preferred). Good English communication skills--written and verbal. A proactive attitude, willingness to learn, and ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Pay: 15.00 per hour
