The laboratory at Transition Metals supports all elements of the ferro-titanium production line, from assessing materials at Goods In, to full suite analysis directly from the Foundry, and final quality checks on outgoing customer material.
Duties:
- Performing calibration / verifications and standard checks across all equipment.
- Crushing and milling metal samples to laboratory standard.
- Carrying out full analysis of metals using optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES), carbon, sulphur, oxygen, and nitrogen determination.
- Performing particle distribution (mesh) tests on sample loads.
- Data entry and analysis.
- Upholding accurate records and itineraries.
- Stock management of all chemicals and other consumables.
- Upholding high COSHH standards across all procedures, and keeping the laboratory a clean environment.
Essential criteria:
- A-level in a science based background (This does not have to be chemistry), but applicants must have a chemistry background or previous laboratory experience. Relevant experience in a similar role in production manufacturing will also be considered.
- Ability to work with precision and under pressure.
- A scientific approach, with strong problem-solving skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Good Microsoft Office skills - Excel is essential.
- Ability to work with hazardous chemicals.
- Good interpersonal skills, including written and verbal communication.
- Willing to learn new skills, adapt, and encourage continuous improvement within the laboratory.
Desired criteria:
- Previous experience with spectrometry.
- Previous experience working with hydrofluoric acid.
- Flexibility in working times (between 7am - 6pm)
