Key Responsibilities



Main Purpose of Job:


The primary purpose of this role is to manage the Laboratory Services Team to ensure the delivery and management of service contracts, maintenance and repairs of laboratory equipment. The role requires in-depth professional knowledge and acumen in laboratory asset management to solve complex problems creatively and effectively, in alignment with Immunocore's objectives.




The role involves working on diverse and complex problems, requiring in-depth evaluation of various factors and utilizing analytical skills to identify and solve issues, provide expertise on methodologies, and lead the collection of information to identify fundamental patterns and trends. The Laboratory Services Manager will make recommendations and drive resolutions, exercising judgment within broadly defined practices to select methods, adapt techniques, and evaluate criteria for obtaining solutions and results.




The individual may provide input to strategy within their area, translating plans into operational processes and executing them. They will interact frequently with management and peers across the company, effectively communicating and presenting results and recommendations. The role requires explaining complex concepts and influencing others to adopt different viewpoints, with minimal direction on more complex matters.




Leadership qualities are essential, and the individual will provide guidance and coaching to less experienced colleagues and manage the Laboratory Services Team, fostering a climate of empowerment and autonomy. They will manage performance and development, providing challenging work, constructive feedback, and learning opportunities, operating from a base of trust and empowerment.


Key Responsibilities:


- Managing a small team to drive operational efficiency in laboratory asset management and service maintenance.


- Ensuring service contracts for laboratory equipment are renewed as appropriate, and reactive and planned engineer visits are organised to ensure equipment is repaired and maintained as required.


- Working closely with stakeholders and suppliers to ensure Immunocore receives good value and service, particularly with regards to service contracts, maintenance and repairs, reviewing and challenging as appropriate.


- Collaborating with the Facilities and EHS teams to ensure statutory maintenance and testing of laboratory equipment is undertaken in a timely manner.


- Adhering to the Immunocore contractor management processes, ensuring authorisations and permits to work are in place as required.


- Facilitating the installation, relocation, sale and disposal of laboratory equipment.


- Managing the asset inventory to ensure it is maintained and data is accurate.


- Managing the shared mailbox / ticketing system to improve usability and performance.


- Reviewing, approving and tracking spend, and supporting budget forecasting activities.


- Regularly interfacing with colleagues across the company, taking the lead in discussions as appropriate.


- Managing own workload and that of the team to drive performance, providing a challenging environment based on trust, empowerment and improvement.


- Collaborating on small projects and providing support to the Facilities Team for relocation and design projects, specifically in relation to laboratory equipment.


- Positively engaging in company-wide initiatives.


Supervisory Responsibility (If applicable):


- Line management of a small team, including regular one-to-one meetings, objective setting, appraisals (PDRs), career development discussions, and identifying development needs to drive strong performance and improvements.


- Providing guidance, mentoring and coaching to junior members of the team.


Education, Experience and Knowledge:


Essential Qualifications and Experience:


- Typically requires a Bachelor's degree and 8+ years of related experience; or equivalent experience.


- Previous laboratory experience and familiarity with laboratory equipment within biotech / pharma or similar, with advanced, wide-ranging professional knowledge of laboratory equipment and asset management.


- Understanding and experience of managing laboratory equipment and service contracts, particularly with regards to planned preventative maintenance and statutory inspections.


- Familiarity with asset management software.


- Understanding and experience of the differing requirements of laboratories and associated equipment, and H&S requirements of CL1-3 laboratories.


- Experience of successfully managing a small team.


- A quick, decisive problem solver who listens to their team and provides regular feedback, recognition and support.


- Experience in developing and maintaining good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.


- Experience in interacting with management, peer group professionals and laboratory users in relation to laboratory asset management and maintenance, managing service delivery to a demanding customer group.


- Strong written and verbal communication skills


- IT literate and competent in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams)

- Experience of the Amici asset module


- Experience of Zoho ManageEngine


- IOSH Managing Safely


Other:


- This job operates in a professional office and laboratory environment. This role routinely used standard office equipment such as computers, telephones and photocopiers, as well as various software packages.


- This is an on-site, full-time position based at our Milton Park site.


- The standard work pattern is Monday-Thursday 09:00-17:30 and Friday 09:00-16:15 with an unpaid lunch break of 45 minutes each day.
