These ingredients include a comprehensive range of texturants, tailored stabiliser blends, fully integrated emulsifier/stabiliser systems as well as products produced using our ground breaking cryogenic spray crystallisation technology. We also process and refine a number of specialised hydrocolloids and natural raw materials as well as supplying a range of semi-processed and prepared foods to manufacturers around the world. Key tasks:



To perform designated quality control tests and methods to a trained standard. To perform tests and procedures in accordance with FSSC 22000 and BRC v8, our food safety and quality management system. To perform research projects under supervision of Head of Technical & NPD. The technician will be responsible for carrying out a number of research projects. This may include the use of a number of cooking techniques and functional tests to assess new supplier products or competitor products. Initiative and observational techniques are encouraged. The Technician will be required to work with products which may include food allergens; raw meat, offal, meat products, dairy products, powdered stabilisers and emulsifiers, raw fish. To perform equipment calibrations as directed, to ensure the validity of results obtained from equipment and to comply with our Quality Policy. Accurate record keeping is of paramount importance in order to comply with FSSC 22000 & BRC v8 and to ensure traceability. Recording test results and experimental data accurately in electronic or written format and maintaining quality and research records to a trained standard. To maintain the incoming samples, record data base and storage facilities. To perform work ensuring personal safety and the safety of the other staff working in the laboratory. All safety statements and training will be given and must be adhered to. To perform additional house-keeping tasks as required including general hygiene tasks and any other technical duties may aid the company responsibility. Maintaining a clean and safe laboratory environment according to environmental and health standards. Staying up to date with relevant scientific developments that can improve the efficiency of lab operations. Recording observations and interpreting findings in conformity to standard testing procedures. Inform Head of Technical & NPD of results outside specification for investigation of corrective actions. Preparing and sending product samples to customers and prospective customers. Filing production run samples to ensure they are easily accessible. Preparing and sending samples for external testing as required. Collaborate with team members to achieve a spotless environment. To issue microbiological request letters for factory environmental and process/internal swabbing programmes in absent of Quality Technician. To assist in the recording of the results in a timely manner ensuring failures are reported to the Food Safety Manger/Quality Technician. To perform equipment calibrations as directed to ensure the validity of results obtained from equipment and to comply with our Quality Policy. To maintain and organise the equipment service/calibration database, arranging third party maintenance/calibration technician visits. To ensure equipment required to be sent to manufacturer is sent within agreed timescales. To maintain the chemical log to ensure all are within their use-by date. To order laboratory supplies and chemicals and ensure any MSDS data sheets are logged with the Technical & Specifications Executive. To maintain the incoming samples, record data base and storage facilities. Any other technical duties that may aid the company's responsibility to ensure Food Safety, Quality, Authenticity and legality of the products and processes performed following our FSSC 22000 and BRCGS procedures and those governing any other 3rd party accreditations.

Requirements:



Experience - previous experience working in a laboratory (minimum 1 year

employment

). There will be a full training schedule for the successful applicant. Qualifications - minimum GCSE grade C (4), or equivalent, in Maths, Science and English. Attention to detail - ability to follow lab procedures, accurately record data and pay attention to detail. Verbal and written communication skills - communicate effectively with colleagues. Problem solving - ability to identify issues with test outcomes or lab processes and find practical solutions in a laboratory setting. Motivation and organisation - keen to learn specific, practical techniques and apply this knowledge to solve technical problems. Initiative and observational techniques are encouraged. Must be well organised, have a positive attitude and ability to be proactive. Teamwork - work collaboratively with team members to achieve a common goal. Time management - work effectively on several lab assignments simultaneously in a timely manner.
