Rossdales Veterinary Surgeons is seeking to appoint a Laboratory Technician to join our busy equine diagnostic laboratory based in Newmarket.
This is a full-time role working 35 hours per week and will include some additional on-call weekend duties.
The successful applicant will work alongside the other laboratory technicians and our veterinary pathologists to provide a thorough and comprehensive diagnostic service. The position will primarily involve working in haematology/cytology, parasitology and PCR departments, and there may be requirement to assist with postmortem examinations and other laboratory departments. Previous laboratory experience in some of these areas would be beneficial, but is not essential as full training will be given for the right candidate.
The successful candidate will be highly organised, efficient and with strong attention to detail, and the ability to work well as part of a team.
The main aspects of this role include (but are not limited to):
Opening the post and assisting with sample booking in/allocation.
Sample preparation for processing and basic analysis of routine haematology, cytology, parasitology and PCR analysis.
Assisting pathologists performing post-mortem examinations and maintenance of the PM facility.
General assistance with laboratory upkeep, stocks, sample storage.
Dealing with queries via telephone/email from vets and clients.
