You will already possess extensive experience in culturing and generating mammalian cell lines and in supporting general lab operations.

Requirements



Essential Experience, Skills and Qualities



A BSc or MSc degree or equivalent combination of training and experience in a life sciences setting or other relevant area. Cell culture experience including general maintenance of mammalian cells. Experience running cell-based assays. Technical laboratory support experience in a scientific or bio-medical environment. Experience with stock management control and maintenance of inventory levels. Well-organised, demonstrable ability to prioritise and manage time and tasks effectively to meet deadlines. Ability to work flexibly within a team as well as work independently. Proactive and flexible attitude to problem solve and respond to changing demands. Caring and inclusive; respectful and receptive to others' diverse ideas, experience and perspectives. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Preferred Experience and Skills



Some level of experience with primary cell culture. Familiarity with equipment, such as automated liquid handling systems. Knowledge of interpreting and applying health and safety regulations and procedures in a biomedical facility.

Role Responsibilities



Ensuring the smooth running of OMass labs by providing operational support, including supporting waste management and carrying out lab and equipment cleaning and decontamination tasks (e.g. biosafety cabinets, incubators, centrifuges and Akta protein purification equipment). Accountable to maintain sufficient general lab consumables and reagents inventory stocks, including recording and tracking of on-site COSHH reagents, and managing Goods-In deliveries. Preparation of regular tissue culture and main laboratory reagent stocks such as aliquots and buffers. Responsible for key tissue culture tasks involving the maintenance of a range of cell lines (e.g. mammalian and/or bacterial/insect cells) for experimental use, including cryopreservation, subculturing and assay plate seeding of cells. Providing key scientific support to the Translational Biology team by independently running established routine cell-based functional assays. Supporting quality assurance efforts by conducting cell line mycoplasma test quality control assays. Support laboratory and site operational Health & Safety policies, procedures and activities, including internal safety inspections. Work closely with the Site Operations Manager to provide support and cover of key site related tasks when required. Acting as a member of the out-of-hours contacts response team for site emergencies. Share information openly and work collaboratively with other departments to optimise efficient running of OMass labs and promote best practices.
