The Role



The Department of Modern Languages in the School of Languages & Literature and as part of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences is looking to appoint a Language Instructor in German.



You will report to the Head of School.

Main Duties & Responsibilities




To contribute to the activities of the German provision by providing language instruction and support (feedback and advice) to groups of students as scheduled in their first, second and final year of study To assist Module Co-ordinators and teaching teams by providing language instruction in the specific language and within the broader taught provision. The work being undertaken will be prescribed by a member of academic staff, material for delivery will mostly be provided. Under the guidance of the appropriate member of the academic staff, to deliver the language sessions as prescribed in the curriculum. To work with the university virtual learning platform to upload learning and teaching information regularly. Under the guidance of the appropriate member of the academic staff team, to contribute to and carry out assessment duties both for written and oral examinations. This includes the marking of assessment material. To undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post. Who you are - Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge and Skills required


Essential





Educated to at least degree level with relevant language capability.

Experience of and the ability to work with students from a variety of backgrounds.

The ability to communicate well with members of the teaching teams and other Instructors and to assist with the development of curricula for inclusion within the taught provision.

Appropriate experience of using general office-based computer packages and of applying those skills to general administrative duties.

Confidence in presenting knowledge of the German language to others.

Flexibility and adaptability and the ability to work well under pressure.

The ability to work well and to communicate effectively with a range of teams and team-members and to establish effective networks of colleagues or external providers who can offer advice.

An ability to understand the bilingual nature of the University and an awareness of the procedures in place to support working bilingually.


Desirable





Previous experience of providing German language instruction.

Experience of providing feedback to students during taught sessions and of contributing to wider assessment regimes.

Oral (spoken) and Written Welsh Level B1.
