JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking a Lab Technician to support the smooth and safe operation of our development labs. You will play a key role in maintaining and calibrating lab equipment, supporting build activities, and executing tasks to support safety and workplace organisation (6S). This role will suit someone hands-on and proactive, who can work flexibly across a range of technical and support tasks.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES .
Carry out calibration of lab equipment and maintain calibration records.
Troubleshoot and repair lab equipment and liaise with suppliers for more complex issues.
Monitor lab supplies and coordinate restocking and procurement requests.
Prepare basic mechanical and electrical assemblies under supervision or from instructions.
Build up electro-mechanical prototype assemblies, including basic wiring
Organise and maintain prototype part storage, including labelling and tracking.
Coordinate kitting of prototype parts for engineers, ensuring components are ready and complete for development builds.
Execute routine lab support tasks such as optical table setups, fixture preparation, and cabling.
Act on Health & Safety observations or audit actions and maintain safety standards.
Log and follow up on lab-related EHS or facilities requests.
Support the upkeep of 6S practices in development labs.
Support laser engineers with setup and teardown of test rigs, and safe movement of systems.
Support the implementation of lab procedures and process improvements.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Degree level education or equivalent relevant experience working in an Engineering, or a related technical discipline is desirable.
Experience in a laboratory or relatable technical workshop is highly valued.
Background in lasers, optics, or photonics would be beneficial.
Experience in electro-mechanical assembly and familiarity with common tools and techniques.
Familiarity with basic electrical and mechanical repair techniques is desirable.
Good organizational and record-keeping skills.
A proactive and practical approach to problem solving.
A willingness to get involved and take ownership of lab improvement actions.

Working conditions typical of a climate controlled and professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers.
