Halton Borough Council is seeking an experienced planning and highways lawyer to join our legal team on a locum basis. This role offers the opportunity to work on a varied caseload, supporting the council in delivering high-quality legal services across planning and highways matters.
The successful candidate will have proven expertise in drafting and negotiating planning obligations under section 106 agreements, highways agreements under section 278, and advising on matters relating to stopping at borders and associated highways issues. You will be comfortable providing clear, practical legal advice to internal clients and ensuring compliance with statutory requirements.
Key requirements
Qualified solicitor, barrister or chartered legal executive with relevant practising certificate
Strong knowledge of planning and highways law
Demonstrable experience with section 106 and section 278 agreements
Experience advising on stopping at borders and related highways matters
Excellent drafting, communication and negotiation skills
Ability to work independently and manage a varied caseload
This is a locum position offering 45 per hour. The role provides flexibility, professional challenge, and the opportunity to contribute directly to the delivery of important local projects.
