Brief Description
What will you be doing?
Drive transformational change across the organisation by leading complex business change programmes that deliver meaningful, measurable outcomes. Champion the governance of benefits management, ensuring every initiative creates lasting value and real-world impact. You'll also take ownership of performance recovery activities, identifying root causes, coordinating improvement plans, and restoring confidence in delivery. Alongside this, you will plan and oversee external communications to ensure clarity, alignment, and credibility across all audiences.
Your stakeholder landscape will be broad and influential, spanning The Region, Train Operating Companies, and Freight Operating Companies. You'll inspire teams, engage diverse partners, and shape strategies that turn ambitious goals into tangible results.
About the role (External)
Every day will be different, but you can expect to be involved in the following activities:
  • Champion the identification, planning, and tracking of business benefits and outcomes- ensuring every change initiative delivers measurable value and aligns with strategic objectives.
  • Provide robust programme assurance by overseeing the benefits realisation plan, instilling confidence in stakeholders that targets will be achieved.
  • Validate project contributions to overall benefits, proactively eliminating duplication and ensuring clarity of ownership across all benefit profiles.
  • Establish and nurture business ownership of benefits profiles and the realisation plan, fostering accountability and sustained engagement throughout the change journey.
  • Proactively assess and manage risks to benefits realisation and stakeholder engagement, swiftly addressing emerging issues and concerns to keep programmes on track.
  • Design and execute stakeholder management strategies, inspiring internal and external partners to embrace change, while setting realistic expectations about both the advantages and challenges of transformation.
  • Craft and deliver impactful communications strategies and plans that keep all parties informed, engaged, and motivated throughout the change process.
  • Prepare business areas for seamless transition to business as usual, developing strategies that safeguard investments and ensure lasting success by actively engaging relevant stakeholders.
In order to be successful in this role, we would like you to have/to be:
Essential
  • Proven success as a senior project manager, delivering major business change in complex blue-chip or government settings.
  • Strong expertise in defining, tracking, and achieving business benefits within change management programmes.
  • Results-driven, with a genuine passion for successful delivery.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to influence and secure buy-in for change.
  • Commercially astute.
  • Resilient and effective under pressure in fast-paced environments.
We would also like but it isn't crucial to have/to be:
Desirable
  • Experience collaborating across functions to deliver multi-million-pound business benefits.
  • Skilled in managing teams within challenging, change-resistant environments.
  • Proficient in budget management.
