If you\'re an experienced Climate Scientist looking to join a highly respected and rapidly growing start-up, this could be the role for you! I am working with a purpose-driven climate adaptation company who are revolutionising how the world currently manages infrastructure, property and assets.

Climate change is a constant in the news, with impacts such as extreme weather, floods, heatwaves, droughts, and wildfires all increasing in severity. You may have seen first-hand the damage that climate change has had; now, you can work to prepare for such events and help to mitigate these impacts. By joining a start-up focused on Climate Adaptation, you\'ll work to anticipate such events, improving humanities preparation against them.

Working with a range of stakeholders from industry, government, science, and research, you will help to create and adapt new and existing products to allow everyone the opportunity to prepare for extreme climate change events. What you\'ll be doing:
In the role of Lead Climate Scientist, you will lead on the quantification of climate change related risks and physical impacts from both present and future extreme weather. You will lead on Climate Science activities as part of the Scientific Research team. The team are focused on scientific rigour, with cutting-edge peer-reviewed science at the heart of all activities. Combining interdisciplinary Geospatial sources such as remote sensing, climate projections, physical modelling, machine learning and risk data, the team are able to project the frequency and severity of physical climate risks such as floods, storms, hurricanes, droughts, subsidence, and more.

You will:

  • Develop and further innovate models and solutions related to extreme weather and other climate impacts.
  • Lead and direct climate research, managing climate team members.
  • Research climate-related hazards, helping to identify and develop innovative methods to resolve such hazards.
  • Identify, and standardise observational and model data required for development. You will subsequently test, validate and benchmark results.
  • Document climate modelling activity, participating in product demos with enterprise-grade clients.
What experience you\'ll need to apply:
This role will be perfect for you if you have:
  • A PhD in a relevant subject, such as Climate Science, Climate Modelling, Climate Change, Weather, Meteorology, Computational Physics, Physical Sciences, Mathematics, Statistics, or similar.
  • Relevant experience in analysing, interrogating and interpreting climate model outputs.
  • Experience using historical weather and climate observations to validate models. You will have used these observations to understand present and future trends.
  • The ability to leverage scientific computing with Python, ideally in a cloud or distributed computing environment.
  • Skills in translating complex concepts to non-technical audiences.
It would be highly desirable for candidates to have experience with the following:
  • Interrogating regional and global climate models, such as CMIP5, CMIP6, or CORDEX.
  • Experience with climate change related extreme weather or climate attribution studies.
  • An understanding of the climate change space, with an interest in future trends.
  • Experience managing scientific personnel, such as PhD students or Post-Doc Researchers.

What you\'ll get in return for your experience:
In addition to a base salary of \xc2\xa355,000-\xc2\xa370,000 (DOE), you will also receive:

This is a full-time PERM position (40-hour week) with standard working hours of 9:00am-5:00pm. This role is based in central London and offers a hybrid working split (requirement of 3 days a week in-office).
