At Sulzer, we're looking for a Lead Design Engineer to join our Order Related Engineering Team in Leeds - home to our Advanced Pump Design and Manufacturing Facility. This centre of excellence is where we engineer and build some of the largest and most complex pump packages in the world, supporting critical infrastructure projects across the globe.
As a Lead Design Engineer, you'll manage the full design lifecycle of assigned projects - from concept through to production ensuring quality, cost-efficiency, and compliance with customer specifications. You'll lead a dedicated team, collaborate with clients, and work cross-functionally with internal departments to deliver world-class engineered solutions.
Your Main Responsibilities
Lead design, engineering, and processing activities for your assigned product range.
Manage and develop your team, providing leadership, direction, and technical support.
Ensure design quality, cost control, and adherence to project schedules.
Prepare detailed engineering studies, technical documentation, and specifications.
Attend client and internal meetings to align on requirements and milestones.
Oversee CAD work, materials selection, and the specification of factored equipment.
Drive continuous improvement and support global standardisation initiatives.
Act as a key technical contact during production and support shop floor execution.
What You Bring
A recognised qualification in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
Proven leadership within a design engineering environment.
Strong background in rotating equipment or related mechanical systems.
Proficiency in CAD, design tools, and engineering documentation.
Commercial awareness and customer-focused approach.
Excellent communication, problem-solving, and time management skills.
Flexible, proactive, and able to work independently when needed.
