Lead Design Engineer OCS

Position Overview

As an OCS Lead Design Engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing the design and development of the Overhead Contact System (OCS) for electric transportation projects.

You will lead a team of engineers and collaborate with various departments to ensure the successful execution of projects, from initial concept through to implementation. Your expertise in electrical engineering, mechanical design, and project management will be crucial in delivering reliable and efficient OCS solutions.

Hybrid - Must be willing to travel internationally, including flights, hotel and expenses paid.

Day rate - Outside IR35 depending on experience.

Contract - 2 years

Responsibilities

1.Lead and manage a team of engineers involved in the design and development of OCS components and systems.

2.Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical, mechanical, civil, and project management teams, to ensure alignment on project goals and requirements.

3.Develop and review OCS design concepts, considering factors such as safety, reliability, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.

4.Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments for proposed OCS designs, identifying potential challenges and proposing solutions.

5.Create detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation for OCS components and systems.

6.Stay up-to-date with industry trends, advancements, and regulations related to electric transportation and OCS design.

7.Perform simulations, calculations, and analysis to validate the performance and integrity of OCS designs.

8.Collaborate with external vendors and suppliers to source materials and components for OCS projects.

9.Participate in project meetings, provide technical guidance, and communicate progress and challenges to stakeholders.

10.Assist in the preparation of project budgets, timelines, and resource allocation plans.

11.Lead testing and validation efforts for OCS components, coordinating with testing teams to ensure compliance with project requirements.

12.Provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers within the team.

13.Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities to enhance design processes, tools, and methodologies.

Qualifications

1.Bachelor\'s or Master\'s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degrees or certifications are a plus.

2.Proven experience (typically 15+ years) in OCS design, electric transportation systems, or a closely related field.

3.Strong knowledge of electrical systems, mechanical design principles, and relevant engineering software/tools.

4.Proficiency in CAD software for creating detailed engineering drawings (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks).

5.Experience with simulation and analysis tools for assessing OCS performance (e.g., MATLAB, ANSYS).

6.Project management skills, including the ability to lead a team, manage timelines, and allocate resources effectively.

7.Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.

8.Strong communication skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams and presenting technical information to non-technical stakeholders.

9.Familiarity with industry standards, regulations, and safety practices related to electric transportation and OCS design.
