Job description

The iconic Thames Barrier, one of the world\'s largest moveable flood barriers, plays a pivotal role in protecting over \xc2\xa3320 billion worth of property and 1.4 million people from tidal flooding in London.

We are looking for a Lead Draughtsperson & Technical Writer to guide and deliver our management of technical drawings and documentation at the Thames Barrier. Alongside working to produce, modify and verify these items, you will be entrusted with responsibility and influence over the processes and information systems (e.g., EDRMS) through which we deliver this work. This responsibility will require you to plan effectively and lead others in delivering the management of our technical drawings and documentation, for example through the creation and alteration of relevant technical standards. To achieve this, you will be supported by a team dedicated to asset data and information management, with a common goal to ensure that this data and information continues to support the safe and reliable operation of the Thames Barrier.

Enhanced security vetting is a requirement for this role. Applicants must have been resident in the UK for at least the past five years to pass this vetting.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.

The team

The Thames Barrier\'s Asset Performance team holds overall responsibility for the management of this asset, alongside five of its associated gates, to ensure that it works when required and protects London from tidal flooding. To ensure this performance, the team leads on asset data and information management, asset management planning, risk assessment, business planning and the delivery of facilities management. The team consists of engineers, planners, technicians and analysts working together to achieve this.

Experience/skills required

  • Proficiency in producing, modifying and verifying technical drawings through computer-aided design & drafting (CADD), acting as a CAD technician, and hand-drawing.
  • Basic knowledge of civil, mechanical and/or electrical engineering.
  • Ability to lead and deliver through others of varying knowledge and motivations.
  • Self-motivation and initiative in delivering responsibilities whilst striving for continuous improvement.
The following experience/skills are not required but would be useful:
  • Working knowledge of building information modelling (BIM)
  • Working knowledge of acting as a project senior user
  • Basic knowledge of asset management
Contact and additional information

Additional to base salary, the postholder will receive per annum:
  • \xc2\xa33,889 London Weighting allowance
  • \xc2\xa33000 Site allowance if they have an incident role at the Thames Barrier, plus further payments when on standby.
We offer a range of employee benefits and we\'re fully invested in developing team-member\'s skills and careers. Please download the candidate pack for more information.

The role is based at the Thames Barrier and interviews will be held in August.
