We have an exciting opportunity for a Lead General Practitioner to join our healthcare team at HMP Pentonville, a category B remand Prison located in Islington close to Caledonian Road Station. The site houses around 1180 male patients aged 18+, many of whom have complex health, acute and substance misuse needs. The service also includes and 18 bed inpatient unit. Within this role you will be overseeing the delivery of a high quality GP service and clinically supervise around 6 GP's who work either substantively or bank. You will assist with training, rotas, clinical sessions, leading MPCCC, and safer prescribing meetings.



The role has a split of 4 sessions of leadership and 6 sessions clinical work per week.


Hours





Monday-Friday session can sit between 8am-10pm

Salary


This is a full time role, you'll receive an annual salary up to 145,000 per annum - depending on experience experience.

What you'll be doing





Our Lead General Practitioners are extremely valued and are well respected members of the Prison Healthcare community, as a Lead General Practitioner, your responsibilities will vary. You will


Provide medical leadership and expert advice, regarding medical and primary care issues Identify and utilise evidence based best practice through benchmarking and clinical guidelines Chair the MPCCC & safer prescribing meetings and support 72 hour review meetings Ensure systems and processes in place for managing results, letters, tasks Be a core member of the local QA and MM meetings Review RCA findings and engage with action planning, ensuring lessons learned are embedded Support the development of Local Operating Policies Support the Head of Healthcare at Local Delivery Board meetings Attend Clinical Forums Reviewing CVs for potential new GPs and locum/agency GPs and support the recruitment of new GPs into the service Oversee the induction of new GPs into the local site Support other GPs working in the service with peer review & clinical supervision Support the Head of Healthcare with any discussions about poor performance and escalate if necessary to regional cluster lead where considering referral to DMG

Qualifications required


MBChB or MBBS Inclusion on the GMC Register and GP Performers List RCGP 1 and 2 substance misuse qualifications or a willingness to undertake the qualifications Ability to work with patients with a history of substance misuse Interest in long term conditions Evidence of continuing professional development Knowledge and methods of developing clinical quality assurance Ability to develop evidence based best practice
