Job Description

FET is a world leader for the supply of Work Class ROV's (Remotely Operated Vehicles), Observation Class ROV's, Trenchers and Submarine Rescue Systems providing innovative solutions for challenging deep water intervention operations. Purpose:

Leading and coordinating a team of mechanical technicians to support and assemble mechanical products, components, and systems, ensuring proper fit and intended quality standards and functionality. This role involves aiding the Mechanical Technician Supervisor and supplying cover during absences. Additionally, act as a positive advocate to support the development and continuous improvement of the department, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment. Responsibilities also include overseeing the day-to-day operations, ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently and effectively while maintaining high standards of safety and quality.

Key Responsibilities: (Key Tasks)



Ensure safe working practices are always adhered to. Must be competent in all aspects of assembling technically engineered products within FET. Responsible for motivating, promoting and maintaining Total Quality Management (TQM) standards throughout the department. Self-develop and evolve own skill set to match the ever-changing specifications of our product portfolio. Day-to-day management of the team and their output. Active communicator and support for all other Operational departments. Drive change using continuous improvement techniques such as Kaizen events or similar. Must be capable interpreting and developing specifications such as Engineering drawings, schematics and specifications, sketches or descriptions of part to be assembled, plan the sequence of operations and communicate clearly. Improve OTIF, maintain operational KPI's, provide reports and review daily performance with the Mechanical Technician Supervisor. Ensure staff are carrying out risk assessments for all tasks and activities. Must be competent in testing hydraulics and mechanical structures. Complete all necessary documentation according to the requirements, including timesheets, NCR's, supporting barcoding of components and entry to SWISS for traceability. Ensure job tasks are carried out safely using good working practices and targeting zero lost time accidents. Inspecting assembled components and finished products for quality and accuracy. Identifying and resolving issues during the assembly process. Maintaining Work Area, keeping the workspace clean and organised. Assemble mechanical and hydraulic assemblies to a high standard and set an example to others. Ownership of load tests with 3rd party witnesses present. Capable of working with limited supervision. Other duties as assigned

Accountabilities: (Deliverables)



Ensure that work is performed in accordance with our quality system, workmanship standards and production schedules as laid out by the department supervisor. Report to the department supervisor's workload schedules, job status and any delays in a timely manner. Take ownership of specific jobs allocated to them by the supervisor.

Education / Qualifications (essential):



Secondary education preferred

Education / Qualifications (desirable):



Shop floor Mechanical apprentice background preferred

Technical Competencies (essential):

Minimum 5 years workshop experience Working knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems Must have good communication skills Must be able to read and interpret drawings and sketches

Key Skills (essential):



Must have good communication skills and the ability to work well with others Must be competent in the use of basic hand and power tools, tube bending equipment, hydraulic test equipment and leading mechanical load test operations Organise and motivate team Must be hard working, able to work under pressure Must be able to read and interpret drawings and sketches Must be skilled in the use of basic IT and able to learn

Experience (essential):



5 years post apprenticeship experience Working knowledge of mechanical hydraulic and electrical systems

QHSE Competencies:



Maintain behaviour in compliance with FET requirements Maintain responsibility and accountability through personal commitment and behaviour Report any unsafe or environmentally unsound acts and conditions to their immediate supervisor such that remedial action can be taken to manage the risk
