Lead Pharmacy Technician For Inpatient Clinical Services, Qeh

London, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity to join the Pharmacy Clinical Services Team at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. We are committed to delivering exceptional patient care and fostering a culture of continuous learning and wellbeing. Our Clinical Services team is made up of dedicated professionals who thrive on improving outcomes for our patients.

This vacancy arises due to an internal promotion following the recent restructure of the Medicines Management Pharmacy Technician (MMPT) team. Our passion for developing and expanding the scope of MMPT roles has led to the creation of a new Lead Pharmacy Technician post, and we are now recruiting to maintain technician capacity and ensure continuity of care across inpatient services.

As a Lead Pharmacy Technician - Medicines Management, you will:

Ensure the day-to-day delivery of a high-quality ward-based pharmacy service, covering both clinical and technical aspects.

Provide supervision, mentoring, and line management to pharmacy technicians, assistants, and trainees.

Support medicines reconciliation, discharge facilitation, and stock management across inpatient areas.

Deputise for the Principal Pharmacy Technician - Clinical Services.

Act as an Educational Supervisor and contribute to training and development programmes.

Perform final accuracy checks on dispensed items in accordance with accreditation.

Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust is a forward-thinking organisation with a strong commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion. Cluster working has been embedded across our sites since 2020, enabling collaborative service delivery and shared learning between QEH and UHL.

We offer a supportive environment where staff are encouraged to innovate, grow, and contribute to service development. Flexible working arrangements will be considered, and we welcome applications from candidates who reflect the diversity of our local communities.

This Band 6 Pharmacy Technician post sits within the Clinical Services team at Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH), part of Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. The vacancy has arisen following the internal appointment of the current postholder to a newly created Lead MMPT role -- a reflection of our ongoing commitment to developing and expanding the scope of Medicines Management Pharmacy Technician roles.

The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality ward-based pharmacy services, supporting medicines reconciliation, discharge facilitation, and stock management across inpatient areas. You will work closely with pharmacists, technicians, and the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, effective, and patient-centred medicines use.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide day-to-day ward-based clinical and technical pharmacy services.

Support medicines reconciliation, discharge planning, and stock control.

Supervise and mentor junior pharmacy technicians and assistants.

Contribute to the development and implementation of SOPs and best practice guidance.

Participate in audits, service evaluations, and quality improvement initiatives.

Communicate effectively with patients and healthcare professionals regarding medicines-related queries.

Uphold standards for safe and secure handling of medicines, including controlled drugs.

Participate in weekend, late shift, and bank holiday rotas as required.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for a motivated and experienced pharmacy technician to contribute to a dynamic and evolving service. You will be supported by a strong leadership team and encouraged to develop your skills in line with departmental priorities and personal aspirations.
