Job Description


OCU Group are looking for an experienced Ruby on the rails Lead Software Developer to join our growing digital team and play a central role in the development of OCU One, our in-house, bespoke workforce management platform. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the technology that powers the planning and execution of complex Energy Transition, Utilities and Digital Infrastructure projects across the UK.
Role Overview
Working closely with the Platform Manager, youll take ownership of key system components, influence architectural decisions, and lead development best practices. Youll be a technical authority across the platform, regularly mentoring other developers and ensuring OCU One remains scalable, performant, and aligned with business goals.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Experience of professional software development experience, currently operating at Lead Developer or equivalent level.
  • Strong development experience with Ruby on Rails in a production environment.
  • Expertise in working with SQL-based databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL).
  • Skilled in version control and collaboration using Git and GitHub (or equivalent Git-based platforms).
  • Proven track record of leading development projects, mentoring others, and delivering high-quality systems at scale.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to design for performance, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Desirable Skills
  • Experience in Flutter or mobile application development (iOS and/or Android).
  • Exposure to containerisation and deployment technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, monitoring/logging frameworks, and cloud-native development.
  • Background in field-service, construction, or workforce management platforms.
  • Experience working on in-house developed platforms or enterprise software
